Nos enfants \u00ab passent de Facebook \u00e0 Twitter et Snapchat tout en t\u00e9l\u00e9chargeant un selfie sur Instagram et en envoyant un SMS \u00e0 un ami. Mais lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019\u00e9valuer les informations qui circulent sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux, ils se laissent facilement duper \u00bb (\u00e9tude de Stanford).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Depuis sa cr\u00e9ation \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1960, l\u2019objectif du programme IB \u00e9tait de faire r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir les \u00e9l\u00e8ves sur la formation des connaissances et de leur permettre de d\u00e9velopper des comp\u00e9tences d\u2019analyse critique gr\u00e2ce au module \u00ab Th\u00e9orie de la connaissance \u00bb (TdC). Aujourd\u2019hui, on voit tr\u00e8s clairement que les cr\u00e9ateurs du programme IB \u00e9taient des visionnaires. Aujourd\u2019hui, les enfants, les adolescents puis les adultes ont acc\u00e8s \u00e0 une multitude d\u2019informations via les r\u00e9seaux sociaux. Quoi de plus important que de savoir distinguer le bon grain de l\u2019ivraie ?<\/p>\n

UN \u00e9tude publi\u00e9e par l'Universit\u00e9 de Stanford<\/a> souligne l\u2019importance de savoir trier les informations re\u00e7ues via les diff\u00e9rents canaux disponibles. Nos enfants sont des \u00ab natifs du num\u00e9rique \u00bb \u2013 expression cr\u00e9\u00e9e pour d\u00e9crire les jeunes n\u00e9s apr\u00e8s l\u2019av\u00e8nement du World Wide Web \u2013 qui, d\u00e8s leur plus jeune \u00e2ge, apprennent \u00e0 jouer avec des tablettes, des consoles, des ordinateurs et d\u2019autres appareils connect\u00e9s comme si c\u2019\u00e9tait la chose la plus naturelle du monde. Mais leurs comp\u00e9tences manquent cruellement lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019\u00e9valuer la validit\u00e9 des informations disponibles via les r\u00e9seaux sociaux.<\/p>\n

Chaque jour, nous sommes submerg\u00e9s par un flot d\u2019informations sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Dans le meilleur des cas, nous devenons bien inform\u00e9s et plus intelligents ; dans le pire des cas, nous devenons mal inform\u00e9s et plus obtus, selon la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019information et la fa\u00e7on dont nous la traitons. Notre capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 g\u00e9rer le flux d\u2019informations peut \u00e9galement influer sur la mani\u00e8re dont nous agissons en tant que citoyens inform\u00e9s dans le d\u00e9bat d\u00e9mocratique, comme l\u2019a soulign\u00e9 le sociologue Michael Lynch dans un article Article du New York Times<\/a> en mars de cette ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

L'\u00e9tude, men\u00e9e pendant 18 mois par le Stanford History Education Group, avait pour objectif d'analyser l'attitude des jeunes Am\u00e9ricains, du coll\u00e8ge \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9, face \u00e0 certains types d'informations. L'\u00e9quipe a d\u00e9fini cinq types d'exercices par niveau. Un coll\u00e9gien doit \u00eatre capable de faire la diff\u00e9rence entre une publicit\u00e9 et un article informatif ; un lyc\u00e9en doit \u00eatre capable d'\u00e9valuer la validit\u00e9 d'une source ; un \u00e9tudiant, qui passe beaucoup de temps \u00e0 faire des recherches sur Internet, doit \u00eatre capable de faire la distinction entre des informations obtenues sur diff\u00e9rents sites et de rep\u00e9rer des informations provenant de sites partisans qui ne pr\u00e9sentent qu'une partie de la situation r\u00e9elle. Les r\u00e9sultats des \u00e9valuations (cinq types d'exercices par niveau), r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par l'\u00e9quipe en plusieurs phases, ont constern\u00e9 les chercheurs.<\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9ponses recueillies (plus d'un millier, provenant de diff\u00e9rents types d'\u00e9tablissements) d\u00e9montrent que les jeunes manquent cruellement de capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9valuer l'information disponible en ligne et prennent souvent pour argent comptant des propos tr\u00e8s discutables. Les chercheurs recommandent donc d'inclure dans les programmes \u00e9ducatifs des s\u00e9ances consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 la recherche d'informations en ligne et \u00e0 la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 comprendre diff\u00e9rentes sources d'information. Les exercices qu'ils proposent peuvent \u00e9galement servir de base de discussion avec les jeunes sur ce sujet.<\/p>\n

Il est absolument essentiel pour le d\u00e9veloppement de notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 que les jeunes, qui repr\u00e9sentent notre avenir, sachent faire la diff\u00e9rence entre l\u2019information et la d\u00e9sinformation. Les m\u00e9dias regorgent de rumeurs sur les th\u00e9ories du complot ; Mark Zuckerberg, fondateur de Facebook a d\u00fb r\u00e9pondre aux critiques apr\u00e8s la campagne \u00e9lectorale am\u00e9ricaine<\/a> En raison du flot d\u2019informations inv\u00e9rifiables qui a afflu\u00e9 ces derniers jours de campagne et qui aurait pu influencer le r\u00e9sultat final des \u00e9lections, il a promis de trouver un moyen efficace de lutter contre les fausses informations sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux. Mais rien ne remplace le bon sens et une bonne \u00e9ducation dans nos communaut\u00e9s. Pour un citoyen bien inform\u00e9, un homme averti en vaut deux ! Il appartient donc aux \u00e9ducateurs \u2013 enseignants et parents \u2013 de travailler ensemble pour aider les jeunes \u00e0 comprendre que les informations non v\u00e9rifi\u00e9es ne sont que des rumeurs, et de leur apprendre \u00e0 toujours chercher la source de l\u2019information, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 ce que la source peut gagner \u00e0 la diffuser.<\/p>\n
