Foundation Years

Grade 8 & 9

Students study English and Portuguese; plus (in English) Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Mozambique Geography & History, Physical Education and a programme of PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health & Careers Education) are also taught. There are two years of the Foundation Course (comparable to Grades 8 & 9 in the national system). Students may join after completing Grade 7 or Grade 8 in other schools. Students who progress well can move to the IGCSE Course after one year. Students are assessed monthly, with Cambridge Checkpoint examinations also being taken.

Cambridge IGCSE

Grade 10 & 11

Cambridge IGCSE courses are normally studied for two years. Students at Enko Riverside International School prepare for 8 subject awards. This qualifies them for Cambridge’s International Certificate of Education. IGCSE subjects studied are:

  • Portuguese 1st and 2nd language
  • English 1st and 2nd language
  • French for beginners
  • International Mathematics
  • Coordinated Science (a double award including Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
  • Global Perspectives
  • Economics
  • Information and Communication Technology

In addition, students have lessons in Mozambique Geography & History, Physical Education and PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health & Careers Education).

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Grade 12 & 13

The IBDP is the best preparation for universities in the world. [For more information on how universities value the IBDP, click here.] All IBDP students study six subjects – three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. The subjects must include at least two languages, mathematics, one science and one humanities subject. Subjects planned for Enko Riverside International School are:

  • Portuguese A: Language & literature (a course for strong users of Portuguese)
  • Portuguese B (for second language users)
  • English A: Language & literature (for strong users of English)
  • English B (for second language users)
  • French ab initio (a beginners’ course)
  • Economics
  • Business management
  • History
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics SL
  • Mathematical studies
  • Theatre

In addition, all students follow a course of Theory of Knowledge (ToK), participate in a CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programme and write a research paper (Extended Essay). Further information on the IBDP is available from the school.
