Cambridge Secondary 1

Cambridge Secondary 1 (Foundation 1 and 2 – Grades 8 & 9) develops learner skills and understanding in English, Mathematics and Science for the first two years of secondary education. Cambridge Secondary provides excellent preparation for Cambridge IGCSE and other educational systems.

The subjects that are on offer are:

  • English as a First or Second Language
  • Portuguese as a First or Second Language
  • French as a foreign Language
  • Mathematics
  • General Science
  • Social Studies including Mozambican History and Geography
  • ICT
  • Physical Education

 

All subjects are mandatory and required to be taken by the student unless there are special circumstances.

Cambridge Secondary 2

Cambridge Secondary 2 (IGCSE 1 and 2) Cambridge Secondary 2 includes Cambridge IGCSE – the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, which has been designed especially for an international audience. Cambridge IGCSE curriculum offers a variety of routes for learners with a wide range of abilities, including those whose first language is not English. It develops learner knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
  • Intellectual enquiry
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change
  • Working and communicating in English
  • Influencing outcomes
  • Cultural awareness

The subjects on offer in our school are:

  • English as a First or Second Language
  • Portugese as a First or Second Language
  • French as a foreign Language
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences – Physics, Chemistry, Biology which can be taken together as Co-ordinated Sciences or separately as individual subjects
  • Social Studies – Global Perspectives

  • ICT (Information Computer Technology)
  • Physical Education

Students choose a minimum of 6 subjects or a maximum of 8 subjects. English/Mathematics/ICT are mandatory in the first year of IGCSE 1. Physical Education is mandatory in school. It is not included as one of their 6 – 8 subjects.

Cambridge Advanced

Cambridge Advanced is typically for learners aged 16 to 19 years who need advanced study to prepare for university and higher education. It builds on the foundations of the Cambridge Secondary 2 stage, although learners do not need to have completed that stage The Cambridge Advanced stage of the Cambridge curriculum includes Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications. Students develop a deep understanding of subjects, as well as independent learning and constructive thinking skills – abilities which universities value highly. Cambridge International AS & A Level curricula are flexible. Enko Sekeleka International School offers 7 subjects at present, as per our Learners choice: Mathematics, Physics, Business Studies, IT, Geography, Chemistry and Thinking Skills. Learners can specialise or study 3 A’s and 1 AS subject, ensuring breadth. Giving learners the power to choose helps motivate them throughout their studies. Thinking Skills is mandatory which develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • In-depth subject content
  • Independent thinking
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
  • Handling and evaluating different types of information source
  • Thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments
  • Making judgements, recommendations and decisions

Physical Education and Extra-curricula activities are mandatory for all students in the Secondary School. Physical Education: Football, Basketball and Athletics. The extra-curricula clubs on offer right now are International Cooking and Baking, Living Laboratory, Music, Dance and Drama, Creative Writing, Arts and Crafts
